Model Engineering for LNWR Prototypes

This is an initial draft page for the Model Engineering section of the web site. This page, and those to follow, will evolve as information is provided and hopefully in response to the requests of model engineers.

Model engineering can be viewed differently from railway modelling because there are no kits, but there are detailed multi-page plans and castings for machining.

If a large scale model of an LNWR protoype is to be made a model engineer would probably want to see a list of all plans that have been published or are available, and the castings that go with them. Ideally a photo of a model made from each of the designs and a further selection of photos for inspiration could be provided. It is hoped that this information can be presented, and in the same format as for the smaller scales in order that there is a general coherence about this section of the web site.

As an example, in the Gauge 3 section you will see some plans (there are no sets of castings yet) and kits, all presented together and this is because Gauge 3 is split and there are even two societies - National 2.5in Gauge Association and Gauge 3 Society, both working to the same scale and gauge, but the former being for passenger-hauling live steam and the latter for scenic model railways. Both work together and components are shared, which is why both are in the same list.
