This article conjectures that there was a brake problem, with vacuum connections not properly made – similar to contemporary accidents on other railways.

This is the second part of an article about Sancton Wood, the Victorian railway architect who worked widely in the British Isles. There is a photograph of his original Market Harborough station before rebuilding.
