No.289 is an 0-8-2T tank , seen here in an official photograph set up by the Official Photographer. To aid clarity the engine is left painted in shop grey but fully lined-out: shiny black would have led to unwanted reflections. As was common, the photo was taken against a white canvas background. Unusually, these engines had the company initials ‘LNWR’ on the side tank.
