The ‘Claughton’ built by Nigel Thompson and
has four cylinders with correct valve gear etc. Completed over
fifteen years ago, it has required no repair nor serious
maintenance since. It has power to spare, making it an easy
engine to drive and has pulled over twenty people.

The Teutonic ‘Jeanie Deans’ was built by
David Roberts and is
fascinating to watch and to listen to, as the exhaust is extremely
soft. Starting requires some care due to the uncoupled driving
wheels, but once underway it pulls well to a very high speed and
always seems to stay in sync. This engine starred at
the 2000 IMLEC trials at Northampton.

The ‘chassis’ of a Precursor (which will be ETNA)
was built by Peter Barlow and is based on Don Young’s design,
which is very close to the original, down to the double radial
truck seen in the picture, which has both a radial action and
a fixed pivot. The valve gear is Joy.
