Early first-class coaches were often named, as were the stagecoaches on which they were modelled. The livery given in paintings of the time was bright yellow below the waist, black above — there were, of course, no photographs: Photography was not invented until 1839, nine years after this this carriage was built. The guard’s seat and luggage rack are on top and there are no brakes! Note the single small footstep below each door — all too easy to miss. This type of coach would have been pulled by Stephenson’s “Rocket”.
