Three LNWR dining cars to diagram 37 were built in 1914; they were 9ft wide, elliptical roofed , end-kitchen cars and, though designed as third-class , ran for most of their lives as composites , with sixteen first-class and sixteen third-class seats – the third class seating next to the kitchen. These diners had entrance vestibules almost the full width of the carriage – ie the doors were only slightly recessed in the sides. After experimenting with loose seating, the LNWR reverted to fixed seating in these vehicles. |
