15 dining cars to diagram W10 were built in 1897; they were centre-kitchen composites Explain 'Composite' with narrow entrance vestibules – the doors were deeply recessed in the sides. All WCJS Explain 'WCJS – West Coast Joint Stock' dining cars were composites after their length was standardised at 65ft 6in because in the day Scottish expresses a diner was normally marshalled in both the Glasgow and the Edinburgh portions of the train. Aberdeen portions had diners for the whole journey only when run as separate trains in the Summer timetable.
